‘Essentials’ Project

I have had to give up work and rely on the benefits system which is not very much. With very little money I can barely afford the essentials of food and monthly household bills. A new pair of shoes could not have come at the right time. Thank you for your kindness.

‘Cancer Poverty’ – the severe financial burden associated with a cancer diagnosis affects at least 80% of the people who use the Something To Look Forward To service. People affected by cancer are often no longer able to work, are forced to work reduced hours and encounter increased travel costs and high hospital parking charges. As such, we are now delivering an Essentials Project to provide people affected by cancer poverty with essential items including clothes, shoes, food vouchers, toiletries, towels and bedding to offset the financial impact of their diagnosis. These are items that the clinical and voluntary agencies we work with have advised that people really need and we continue to work closely with these professionals to ensure we reach and support those that are in most need.

We always seek to work in consultation with the people we support and professionals working in the field. If you have any suggestions for essential items, have something to donate or are a professional looking to access this project for your patients please contact fiona@somethingtolookforwardto.org.uk
